SHAMANIC  ART

Shamanic Art is made in conscious connection to energies of love, kindness,  and compassion.
Using the format of the medicine sphere with the focus of creating a clearing tool, the purpose of working in this way, is to make objects that are uplifting, that are capable of clearing stagnant energy both in the viewer and in the wider environment, and are - hopefully - inspiring, by the nature of their vibrational offering.

Birth of the Seal Drum - Te Whānautanga o te Oranga a Io
2013 -2016    acrylic on canvas    610 x760mm

The Seal drum was made from a dead seal pup washed on to the beach.  It was very specific work making it.  It required journeying into the past relationships with human seal slaughter and neutralizing the vibrational stress from that time.  After 3 years, when the work was finished, the seal drum instructed me to remove the skin and return it to the sea.

Working with my whakapapa - my genealogy - enables the outer expression of the symbols that arise within me as I connect in with that love based expanded overview available through the medicine sphere.
This has resulted in an alignment with the Australian aboriginal Koori Tingari (creation) paintings.
Australia being my country of birth
combined with my Aotearoa New Zealand farm girl upbringing in Mangaroa Valley, Upper Hutt, has gifted me a strong spiritual connection to land.   This combination of cultures, continents, ancient song lines and human history enables these paintings.
